Counting my blessings: I write for a living
The economic news hitting the airwaves and the newspapers has been grim lately. And why not? It’s terrible out there.
Just check out this news: The United States in November shed more than 500,000 jobs. That’s amazing! In just one month!
So that’s why, when I’m frustrated with the magazines that I write for or with the comics publishers I’m trying to make more money from, that I try to remember just how fortunate I am. I write for a living. And I’m successful enough to support my family from it.
If you can say the same about yourself, remember, too, that you should be extremely grateful for this fact. There are so many people out there now who have no jobs. To be able to work every day doing something you actually enjoy — for the most part — is an incredible gift.
This is something I have to remind myself about every time I get cranky when an editor requests one more fact or when a source blows off an interview. It could be worse. It could be much worse.
